KO - Round 1

Like many people, I made my new year's resolution, focused on the positive aspects to the new year, and couldn't wait to make an impression. It only took one week for all this to turn negatively. Within the first week of the new year, my family received news of my father-in-law was in the hospital. Less than a week later, he passed away. I took my bereavement from work and during that time the flu hit our house, I developed an unknown rash, and my husband and I have bronchitis. Not only was I knocked out in round 1 but it was a straight TKO. I was out for the count (literally). It took 4 days to physically move but the bronchitis is still lingering two weeks later.

Starting the new semester, I only saw my students three days before I was done a week. Trying to get back to the "norm" was not working for me. As much as I tried talking, the more I began coughing. My mouth became dry and throat was sore. Getting knocked out in the first round really changed how January went. I was hoping to celebrate my birthday with family and friends but it did not work out as I hoped.

There are different parts to my life that I hold on to to keep me going from organizing volunteer events to being an expert in the classroom. Lately, I felt that being knocked down I could get back up. It's been two weeks later, and I am still trying to recover from the "injuries" that began the year.

My students have been understanding since I came back to work. I appreciate their willingness to work when needed and let me recover from all that has been going on. While I felt knocked out, I feel that there is still time to recover and be myself. While my bronchitis is still lingering and my sinus infection seems to be holding on, I am hoping that with some self-care and rest, I can get back into the educational ring.
